AMN To Commence Operations in Ghana

London, Dec 19, 2013.

AMN has announced that it will commence operations in Ghana in Q1 of 2014.

Ghana has a strong and competitive mobile market, with 5 GSM operators serving more than 25 million subscribers. But still by the end of 2013, nearly 20% of Ghana's population of 25.6 million people and more than 50% of Ghana's 238,500 square Kilometres are still unserved by mobile communications services.

It is estimated that up to 500 mobile communications towers must be constructed to serve Ghana's rural population. Although GIFEC (Ghana's Investment Fund for Electronic Communication) has made significant investments in an attempt to stimulate the development of rural coverage by funding the build of nearly 50 towers, rural Ghana remains a huge untapped opportunity.

AMN plans to invest $32M over the next two years to build 250 base stations. The 250 base stations will be connected to one of Ghana's licensed mobile operators and create nearly 1 million new subscribers.
